Developer inXile Entertainment has announced the release of The Mage’s Tale, a VR action RPG set between the events of The Bard’s Tale III: Thief of Fate and the upcoming The Bard’s Tale IV. The game is now available on Oculus Rift and requires Oculus Touch to play.
Set after the events of The Bard’s Tale III, where the city of Skara Brae was destroyed and the protagonists were forced to challenge the Mad God Trajan, The Mage’s Tale is a smaller adventure in a larger world. The corrupt wizard Gaufroi has kidnapped Mage Alguin, master of the apprentice whose role players adopt. In order to save him, players must explore ten deadly dungeons, including the maze-like sewers that are the last remnant of Skara Brae and the horrific living tombs of the bloodthirsty Charn, while solving puzzles, avoiding traps, and vanquishing hordes of vicious monsters.
As a mage’s apprentice, players wield raw elemental power in the palms of their hands, allowing them to use fireballs, javelins of ice, arcs of lightning, and swirling tempests against their foes. As players delve deeper into the depths, they will discover and master forgotten secrets, ancient lore, and powerful spell reagents with which you can craft increasingly exotic spells to defeat even greater foes.
The Mage’s Tale has a retail price of $39.99. The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
inXile Entertainment currently has The Bard’s Tale IV in development. The company released Torment: Tides of Numenera earlier this year.
