As the line goes in A Song of Ice and Fire, “what which is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.” At the very least, retro console cloner AtGames has taken to the idea wholeheartedly, announcing not one, but two premium HD versions of the classic Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis for release in Fall 2017.
The Atari Flashback 8 Gold features 120 built-in games, include classic like Pitfall! and Space Invaders, Kaboom!, River Raid, Centipede, and Millipede. The console comes with two high performance 2.4ghz wireless controllers modeled to look like the Atari 2600 originals and includes two controller ports for optional wired joysticks or paddles. Other new features include 720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every game.
The Sega Genesis Flashback has been designed to look like the original console and features 85 built-in games as well as an integrated cartridge port that plays almost all the original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges. Games included in the built-in library include titles from the Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Phantasy Star, and Shining Force series of games. Like the the Atari Flashback 8 Gold, the Sega Genesis Flashback includes two 2.4ghz wireless controllers styled after the Sega Genesis originals, controller ports for wired gamepad, 720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature.
The company also announced updated versions of a number of their existing consoles, including The Atari Flashback 8 Classic, the Atari Flashback Portable Game Player, the Sega Classic Game Console, and the Sega Nomad-inspired Ultimate Portable Game Player.
“These upcoming products are our best hardware lineup ever,” says Dr. Ping-Kang Hsiung, CEO of AtGames. “Building on our long history of delivering value-packed, nostalgic products for our customers, this new line-up takes classic gaming to a stunning new level.”
AtGames has not yet announced prices for the upcoming consoles.
