Finnish mobile game developer Motorious Entertainment has closed on €800,000 in funding. The funding round was led by Finnvera Venture Capital and Nordea’s Startup and Growth Services. Combined with the funds from the startup’s first round of investment, Motorious has raised a total investment to €1,300,000.
Founded in 2015, Motorious Entertainment is currently gearing up to launch its debut mobile release, Top Gear Road Trip, a casual free-to-play game based on the popular Top Gear automobile television show. Built upon match-three control mechanics, players will progress on a road trip across Europe, from England into France, through the Alps, and beyond. Strategy, planning, and car tuning will be key elements for players to consider in order to win the puzzle races. With over 400 million Top Gear fans around the globe, Top Gear Road Trip will launch on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android devices in Summer 2017.
“After a number of years as Editor in Chief of Finnish Top Gear, it has been an exciting ride to extract the DNA of driving’s number one television franchise, and build it into a mobile game,” said Jari Pauna, CEO and Creative Director of Motorious Entertainment. “We are excited to have Finnvera Venture Capital, Nordea’s Startup and Growth Services in the driving seat, to help grow our team and look forward to launching Top Gear Road Trip, in partnership with BBC Worldwide this summer.”
“In cooperation with Finnvera, we’re pleased to provide the funds to continue the rapid growth of Motorious studio infrastructure and headcount,” said Kenneth Koivula, Investment Manager from Nordea’s Startup and Growth Services.
“Finnvera is excited to back Motorious in advance of the launch of Top Gear Road Trip,” said Jani Tuominen, Finance Manager from Finnvera. “We’ve been impressed with how the studio has developed this iconic television brand, to a new mobile games franchise that we believe will become a worldwide phenomenon.”
