Publisher Square Enix has released Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, an updated re-release of the original PlayStation 2 title for modern consoles. The game is available for PlayStation 4.

Originally launched in 2006, the game is set in the world of Ivalice, a land also visited in the Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story franchises. The small kingdom of Dalmasca, caught between the warring empires of Archadia and Rozarria, has fallen. Princess Ashelia, the heir to the Dalmascan throne, lost her father and her husband during Archadia’s invasion, and has devoted herself to forming a resistance to liberate her homeland. Below the capital, the orphaned Vaan, a young thief whose brother died because of the war, dreams of freedom and flying through the skies. The chance encounter between these two sets in motion changes in the lives of not only their companions, but the fates of nations.

In addition to remastered HD graphics and soundtrack, The Zodiac Age revamps the battle system and introduces the brand-new Zodiac Job System, which overhauls the original License Board system and gives players the ability to develop two of twelve jobs for each character. Others updates includes the newly implemented speed mode, auto-save functionality, and shortened loading times.

The Collector’s Edition of the game is available exclusively on the Square Enix Online Store and features an exclusive Judge Magisters Mini Bust Set that will not be sold separately. In addition to the base game, the Collector’s Edition also includes an exclusive steelbook, selection of soundtrack music, Art Card set, and original in-game soundtrack music option DLC.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age has a suggested retail price of $49.99, while the Collector’s Edition is priced at $199.99. The game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
