XSEED Games, the console publishing brand of Marvelous USA, Inc., has announced the release of Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star in North America. The game is now available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star was developed by Marvelous Inc. and takes place within the Nasuverse, the extensive setting shared by a number of works created by TYPE-MOON’s scenario director, Kinoko Nasu. Examples of properties in the Nasuverse include the visual novels Tsukihime, Fate/stay night, and Mahou Tsukai no Yoru; the novel series Kara no Kyoukai; and the video game franchise Fate/extra.

The story takes place after the events described in Fate/EXTRA, and depicts the aftermath of that world’s Holy Grail War. The game features a diverse cast of “Servants,” ancient warriors of legend and imagination, who survived the previous war. With 16 playable Servants across three distinct narrative perspectives, players will be charged with gaining dominance over the digital realm created by the all-powerful Moon Cell Automaton super computer. Players will face off against foes from a variety of Fate productions, including characters from Fate/EXTRA, Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero, Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order. The game will contain the original Japanese voices supplemented with English text.

Amongst other gameplay changes, a new form change battle mechanic called Moon Crux debuts in this entry, transforming the player-controlled Servants and granting them considerable powers that allow them to devastate enemies.

In addition to standard retail and digital formats, the game is available for both platforms in a limited Noble Phantasm Edition bundle, which contains a 7.5” by 6.3” hardcover art book featuring over 100 pages of high-quality artwork and backstory from Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, a pack of sixteen collectible 3” by 5” cards depicting each of the game’s Servants, and a 24” by 17” cloth poster, all housed in a custom collectible box. Furthermore, for the first two weeks following today’s launch, the PlayStation Store will offer a special PlayStation Vita digital bundle which will include the core Fate/EXTELLA Vita game, an exclusive Vita theme, and the exclusive Cold-Blooded Warden DLC outfit for the character Gilgamesh.

The limited Noble Phantasm Edition has a suggested retail price of $69.99 for the PS4 system and $59.99 for the Vita system, while the standard retail and digital editions of the game are available for $49.99 and $39.99, respectively. This title has been rated “T for Teen” by the ESRB.
