Arc System Works, the creators of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, announced the release of Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastophe, the latest installment in the Chaos Code 2D fighting game franchise developed by FK Digital. The game is available via Steam and the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 4.

The game is set in a world where “Chaotics” has become the sole source of energy. Its inventor, Dr. Tesla, has suddenly disappeared, the only clue in his wake being the words “CHAOS CODE”. The United Earth Government attempted to cover up both the scientist’s disappearance and his cryptic message, but the information had already gone viral. Left with little choice, the government has offered a bounty to anyone who can solve the mystery behind the doctor’s mysterious words.

As can be seen in the trailer, the game is clearly a part of the Guilty Gear family, with the rich, vibrant colors of sprite-based graphics and the fast combo gameplay that is a Guilty Gear trademark. Players make their way through the game in control of characters with individual quirks, styles, and look. Each has their own agenda, ranging from domination of Chaotics, overthrowing the government, or increasing their wealth.

The game includes a variety of modes including Arcade Mode, Versus Mode, and Mission Mode. Online play allows players to compete for the highest rankings. Newly added to the game are Lupinus and Ray, newcomers to the series who increase the available roster to sixteen. Each of the characters now have an additional four moves not present in the original. Players can choose these moves to suit their play style. In addition, a Color Edit Mode allows players to customize the color scheme of their preferred favorite character.

Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastophe retails for $19.99. The game has been rated T for Teens by the ESRB.
