Developer Intrepid Studios have announced the results of their crowdfunding campaign for their MMO Ashes of Creation. The company’s Kickstarter drew 19,576 backers who pledged a grand total of $3,271,809 over the course of a month, nearly five times the $750,000 the developers had originally sought. Five of those backers pledged the highest available amount, $10,000.

“This is simply stunning. We cannot thank the fans of Ashes of Creation enough for their support. We promise we won’t let you down, and we’re absolutely thrilled to find so many like-minded gamers who want to see the MMORPG genre truly move forward,” said Steven Sharif, CEO and Creative Director of Intrepid Studios.

Ashes of Creation is an MMORPG set in a fallen fantasy world, untouched by civilization for thousands of years. The creation of civilization is the responsibility of the game’s players, with choices influencing the development of the very world. The game will lack developer-determined factions for players to join, leaving even these fundamentals up to the players to decide and create, but does feature eight races, which will be integrated into the game’s eight classes in order to provide a different feel to each.

The state of the world is determined through the game’s Node System. It’s through this system that players determine how civilization evolves. Every zone will be composed of multiple Nodes, while each Node will have a Zone of Influence. As players level up, so do these Nodes. With enough experience a Node might become a village, a city, or even a metropolis. As these population centers open up, players can establish citizenship through in-Node housing, instanced housing, or the Freehold system.

In a statement, Sharif said that there was significant interest in using alternate payment methods that Kickstarter did not support. As a result, Intrepid Studios will extend its crowdfunding campaign through the month of June via the game’s website.
