Developer Allods Team has formally released its action MMORPG Skyforge onto the PlayStation 4. The game was in early access on that system since March 28.

The game is set on the world of Aelion, a planet under constant threat and with a bloody history. Otherworldly conquerors have attempted to seize and enslave Aelion’s people across eons of failed invasion attempts. Strange alien technology and magic scar the planet. Once protected by their guardian deity, the people of Aelion have seen their god depart, but not before he granted the most worthy protectors a part of his essence. The player is meant to aspire to the role of one of those chosen few, as an immortal defender of Aelion.

As an action MMORPG, combat relies on normal attacks, heavy attacks, dodges, “finisher”-type moves, and abilities. These techniques can be turned into skill combos, while characters can learn new skills as players advance from mortality to godhood, with the Divine Form featuring ultimate-tier abilities. The developers describe the enemies featured as “creatures from the deepest oceans, reapers from the pits of fire, and lifeless machines from the coldest wastelands,” promising a variety of foes to vanquish. The PlayStation 4 version of the game has been optimized for controller usage.

Instead of a more familiar leveling format, Skyforge uses the “prestige” system, which ties character advancement to their stats and progression. The game features eleven unlockable classes, with three other classes to become available soon. Players can develop and switch between multiple classes at any time, allowing them to play as a Berserker in one run before switching to a Gunner in the next. Players can collect equipment, fragments of armor, or parts of fallen foes in order to create new weapons.

As a free-to-play title, Skyforge is sustained via its cash shop. To celebrate the PlayStation 4 version’s release, the developers are offering three types of Release Packs, Starter, Loremaster, and Collector’s. The packs include exclusive rewards such as additional class unlocks, special mounts, costumes, game currency, and Premium status.
